The History of the Purcell Norwood rivalry
A sports rivalry is an intense competition between athletic teams or athletes. Just so be it, Purcell and Norwood have been rivalries since 1973. Every time these two teams battle each other, in any sport, it's never a disappointment to watch. It's always intense and exciting. If you have never been to a Norwood vs Purcell game, come check out the action this Friday at St. Xavier Stadium 7:30 p.m. where the Norwood Indians and The Purcell Cavaliers will play football. The history behind the rivalry is all about bragging rights and The Mayor's Trophy. Whoever wins the game, gets the privilege to take home The Mayor's Trophy dating every win and loss between the two schools. Norwood defeated Purcell last year to a score of nineteen to thirteen. Hopefully Norwood can pull out another exciting win and be able to have The Mayor's Trophy in the Norwood High School.
